Cube has released the Kathmandu Hybrid Pro 800 Wave for the 2027 model year, and the trekking e-bike is already reaching retailers at a price just under €3,600. The launch continues a clear trend across the German brand’s lineup: bringing high-output motors and large batteries, once reserved for e-MTBs, into versatile everyday bikes.
At the heart of the Kathmandu sits Bosch’s Performance Line CX mid-drive, delivering up to 120 Nm of torque — a figure that puts the step-through trekking bike on par with many dedicated electric mountain bikes. Energy comes from an 800 Wh PowerTube battery, which should provide substantial range even when riders lean heavily on assistance, while a large Bosch Kiox 500 display handles ride data.
The component list reflects the bike’s do-it-all ambitions. A RockShox Recon Silver RL Air fork offers 100 mm of travel, generous for the category, and Cube pairs it with a suspension seatpost instead of a rear shock. A 12-speed Shimano XT drivetrain handles shifting, and four-piston Shimano BR-MT420 brakes with 180 mm rotors provide stopping power for the 30.4 kg machine.
Practicality is fully covered: integrated front and rear lights meet road regulations, and mudguards, a rear rack, a kickstand, a frame lock and a chain guard all come pre-installed. For riders wanting one bike for commuting, loaded touring and light trails, the Kathmandu Hybrid Pro 800 makes a strong case in the upper mid-range segment.
