Giant has introduced a new generation of the Trance Advanced E+, giving its carbon trail e-bike a substantially stronger drive system and an electronic traction-control function.
The central update is Giant’s 48-volt SyncDrive Pro 4 motor, which delivers up to 120 Nm of torque, 850 watts of peak power and as much as 500 percent support. The bike uses a removable 840 Wh EnergyPak battery, while an optional 280 Wh range extender can increase total capacity for longer rides. Giant also integrates its RideControl system and a colour display into the top tube.
The most unusual feature is Traction Control, which uses sensor data to detect rear-wheel slip and adjust motor support. Giant says the system is intended to improve control on loose or steep terrain rather than simply maximise power. Additional connected functions include electronic shifting compatibility, tyre-pressure alerts, remote locking and tracking through Apple’s Find My network.
Its chassis follows current aggressive e-MTB practice: 150 mm of rear travel, a 160 mm fork and mixed wheel sizes, with a 29-inch front wheel and 27.5-inch rear. Three-position flip-chip adjustment allows riders to alter the geometry, while Giant claims a complete weight of 21.9 kg for the flagship model despite its high-output motor and large battery.
Although the Trance Advanced E+ is aimed more at technical trails than everyday SUV-bike use, its traction management could be significant for the wider market. Software-controlled grip may eventually become relevant to heavy trekking and all-terrain e-bikes used on gravel, wet climbs and loaded touring routes.
