Kalkhoff has expanded the entry end of its e-bike range with four Level 1 city models priced below €3,000. The German brand is positioning the new bikes as practical everyday transport, with low-step frames, integrated batteries and configurations designed around different urban riding preferences.
The range begins with the Level 1 Move, which uses Bosch’s Performance Line PX motor with up to 90 Nm of torque, a 600 Wh battery and a conventional Shimano nine-speed derailleur drivetrain. It is listed at €2,999, making it the most affordable of the four despite carrying the most powerful motor in the group.
Three additional variants — Comfort, Morning and Eve — use Bosch’s quieter Performance Line motor with up to 75 Nm. They pair it with low-maintenance Gates belt drives and enclosed Shimano Nexus hub gears. Depending on the model, riders can choose a conventional freewheel setup or a coaster brake, while battery capacities range from 540 Wh to 600 Wh.
The launch is significant because belt-drive e-bikes with integrated batteries and established Bosch hardware often sit above this price category. Kalkhoff’s approach brings features associated with premium commuter and trekking machines into a more accessible segment. Although the Level 1 range is aimed primarily at city use rather than off-road riding, its combination of upright comfort, weather-resistant drivetrains and relatively large batteries should also appeal to riders seeking a simple all-purpose e-bike for commuting and weekend trips.
