Tenways has acquired Sparta from Accell Group, bringing one of the Netherlands’ longest-established bicycle brands under the ownership of the younger international e-bike company. The deal was reported on October 15, although financial terms and detailed plans for Sparta’s future product range were not disclosed.
Sparta is a familiar name in the Dutch market and has spent recent decades focusing heavily on electric bicycles for everyday transport. Tenways entered Europe with comparatively streamlined urban e-bikes sold through a mix of direct and dealer channels. Adding Sparta gives the company a heritage brand with established recognition in the Netherlands, where utility cycling and dealer support remain especially important.
For Accell Group, the sale represents another significant change to its brand portfolio. The group continues to own major European names including Batavus, Koga, Haibike, Winora and Lapierre. For Tenways, the acquisition could broaden its reach beyond its existing product identity and provide a stronger base in the traditional retail market.
The immediate effect on Sparta customers and dealers is not yet clear. Key questions include whether manufacturing, distribution and warranty arrangements will change, and how distinctly Sparta will be positioned alongside Tenways. Until the companies publish a fuller integration plan, the acquisition is best viewed as a strategic expansion rather than an announced overhaul of Sparta’s current bikes.
